~ Typical Event Details ~
The Ino Shrine Autumn Festival features a dedicated lion dance performance.
Boasting 300 years of tradition, it is designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Hiroshima Prefecture.
Four boys who turn 12 that year dress as “chigo” (young children) wearing peony flower crowns and play drums in 32 different patterns (currently 16), accompanied by a parent-and-child lion dance.
The tradition is said to have begun in the mid-Edo period after Fukuda suffered significant damage from natural disasters, serving as a prayer for the health and safety of children and families, as well as for a bountiful harvest.
