More than 1,300 cherry trees bloom in full glory along the road in front of the park and throughout the park, creating a breathtakingly beautiful scene. With around 20 varieties of cherry blossoms, you can enjoy them over a long season from mid-March to late April. This bamboo-themed park features large playground equipment added in 2018, the “Bamboo House” where you can learn about bamboo through hands-on experiences, a large lawn plaza, a multipurpose ground, a gymnasium, and other sports facilities—fun for everyone from kids to seniors.

In the Oi/Sukune area of Shimono Town, about a 10-minute drive from central Takehara, stands a great cherry tree over 15 m tall with a spread of more than 19 m. It is over 200 years old. In 2014, it became the city’s first tree designated as a city Important Cultural Property as a Natural Monument, and is said to be the third-largest tree in the prefecture. It also appears in the anime “Tamayura,” set in Takehara, and every year in early April at peak bloom, the area bustles with locals and visitors.

In the Konashi area, about a 15-minute drive from central Takehara, there is a large Edo-higan cherry tree about 20 m tall, about 15 m wide, with a trunk circumference of 3.07 m. Because the trunk splits into two trees near the base, it was named the Meoto (Couple) Cherry Tree. They say that if you come here in early April at peak bloom to view the blossoms, your marriage will be blessed with harmony…♡
