A Trip to a World Heritage Site and Rabbit Island
Recommended Season: Spring / Summer / Fall / Winter
About 15 minutes by boat from Tadanoumi Port in Takehara City.
This small island, with a circumference of about 4 km, was once called “the island erased from the map” due to the presence of a poison gas factory.
Now designated as a national park, it is known for its large population of rabbits and attracts many visitors from both Japan and abroad seeking relaxation.
The island features facilities including Kyukamura Okunoshima, which offers accommodation, hot springs, and local cuisine, as well as the Poison Gas Museum and the Okunoshima Visitor Center.
At Kyukamura Okunoshima, you can enjoy camping, cycling, tennis, and fishing, and in summer, the beach and outdoor pool are also open.
It’s an island where you can spend a relaxing time surrounded by the beautiful nature of the Seto Inland Sea while being soothed by the rabbits.
