A Trip to a World Heritage Site and Rabbit Island
Recommended Season: Spring / Summer / Fall / Winter
Standing 266 meters tall with striking rock formations, Mt. Kurotaki is a famous spot for both its spiritual significance—home to a Kannon-do hall and 33 stone Buddhas—and its breathtaking views.
The well-maintained hiking trails make it an easy climb even for beginners, reaching the summit in about 30 minutes.
The Kannon-do hall, said to have been founded during the Tenpyo era (730 AD), houses a Kamakura-period masterpiece: a statue of the Eleven-faced Kannon.
From the summit and the “Koshikake-iwa” (Sitting Rock)—once praised by General Nogi—you can enjoy a panoramic view of Okunoshima Island, the Geiyo Islands, and the distant Shikoku mountain range.
The stunning view of the Seto Inland Sea is so grand you’ll forget you’re only 266 meters up, making it a perfect spot for picnics and casual strolls.
